Safety is our First Priority:

*Staff -Each staff member is required to go through fingerprinting and background checks.  All staff are all CPR and FIRST AID TRAINED for adults and children.

*Access to the Education Wing: -The Preschool doors are locked at 9:15 each morning. The only access into the Education Wing is with a security code or a key.  If a parent or guardian needs to enter during preschool hours, they must ring the front doorbell and a staff member will let them in.   The doors are open at noon and 2:00pm for pick up.

*Releasing a child to other adults:-Before a child can attend our school, a parent/guardian must fill out an emergency form stating who their child can be released to.  If a person is not listed on the form, we cannot release a child without written or verbal permission from the parent/guardian.

Discipline:

We use praise and encouragement to reinforce positive behavior, self-control and cooperation.  If a child is disruptive in the classroom, we use distraction and discussion to try to remedy the situation.  If the child continues to be disruptive, we will remove the child from the classroom and take him/her to the Director’s office to discuss the issue without the distraction of other children.  If a child causes repeated,  intentional harm to others, the parents will be called in for a conference.  As a last resort, a child may have to be removed from  our program if the situation cannot be resolved.  Parents also need to understand that when children are sharing a classroom, there will inevitably be occasional bumps and bruises caused by unintentional occurrences.  An “ouch report” will be sent home if your child is injured during the school day.

Tuition:

Each family will receive a tuition booklet in the beginning of the school year, with a page for each month’s payment attached.  Please turn each monthly page in with your payment and it will be your receipt for your records.  Tuition is due on your child’s first school day each month.  A late fee of $15.00 will be charged if the tuition is not paid by the 10th of each month.  A family may pay tuition in full, although there will not be a discount for doing so. Checks should be made out to “Epworth Preschool.”

Schedule:

Classes meet from 9:00 am-noon and 9:00-2:00pm, MWF, TTH, TTHF or M-F

*Illness:

You will receive a list of symptoms to be aware of and policies regarding COVID-19 with your registration packet. If your child exhibits symptoms of illness during the school day, we will notify you to pick them up early. If a child needs to be medicated with a medicine other than a prescribed antibiotic, such as tylenol or cough syrup, the child should stay home from school until the symptoms clear.

Inclement Weather:

*The Preschool generally follows the Cape Henlopen School District, as far as closings and delayed openings.   Follow us on Facebook or go to our website at preschool.eumcrb.org to see notifications for closings and delays.

*FOG:  If the Cape Henlopen School District is delayed due to fog, the preschool will open at 10:00 am, regardless of whether the delay is one or two hours.

*ICE/SNOW:  If the Cape Henlopen School District is closed due to ice or snow, the preschool will be closed.

*OTHER INCLEMENT WEATHER:IF the Cape Henlopen School District is closed due to dangerous/inclement weather the preschool will be closed.

*If the Cape Henlopen School District is delayed due to dangerous/inclement weather, the preschool will open at 10:00 am, regardless of whether the delay is one or two hours.

Epworth Preschool will be listed on WBOC or WMDT if we are delayed or closed.  We will also announce our delay/closing on our Facebook page and this website.

Clothing and Possessions:

Comfortable, washable clothes work best for your child’s time at preschool.  Children should dress in weather-appropriate clothing since the classes go outside daily, weather permitting. Please label your child’s extra clothes and outdoor clothing

Loose sandals, crocs, cowboy boots and flip flops limit a child’s ability to play on the playground and run around freely.  Close toed shoes work best. Toy guns, other “weapons”, gum, candy, money, bottles and pacifiers are not allowed in the preschool.

Communication:

*A monthly newsletter and calendar will be sent home by your child’s teacher. We recommend hanging this calendar in a prominent spot so you can refer to it regularly.

*A list of ALL In service days/Holidays/Closings/Special events will be sent home in the beginning of the school year. Please refer to this monthly so you are up to date on our closings and holidays.

*A daily activity slip, stating what your child did during the school day, will be sent home everyday.

*Parent/Teacher Conferences are held twice a year.  If you would like to schedule a conference prior to the scheduled time, contact your child’s teacher or the director and we will make arrangements to meet and discuss any questions or concerns.

*Join us on Facebook for weekly notifications and pictures of daily activities, special activities and events.
